When did you learn to read? When you were in Kindergarten? What reading skills were you taught after that? NONE????
What? SAY AGAIN! None? None?? NNNONE !#$!@$#
Sorry to do that to you ... we just couldn't resist but that is the truth for most of us isn't it? Most of us have come all the way from kindy level with the same reading skills carrying us all this way. OK, so we have perfected the reading by doing tons and tons of practice reading, reading, reading. But essentially we still have the same skill set don't we? And now we're reading magazines, books, technical manuals, journals, newspapers, websites, e-mails and more all with those same kindy level skills.
What can you do about this? Take this course. In our Speed Reading level of our Cognitive Skills courses we search out and find the problems in your reading technique. Back-skipping and regression are common but sub-vocalization is the main culprit. Most of us can read at 250 words per minute (wpm) and no faster because of the way we were taught to read - which is by sounding out the words as we read them. The human larynx (voice box) being capable of a maximum throughput of around 250 words per minute means that we are limited to reading at this speed because this is the fastest speed we could attain while speaking.
Doubt that you are speaking out the words as you read? Try this little experiment. Place your index finger and thumb of your right hand on each side of your throat and silently read some text...do you feel small movements in your throat as you read. This is you SAYING out the words albeit silently as you read. This together with problems such as back-skipping and regression are holding you back in your reading speed. Can you read faster than this? YOU BET. Will you be able to understand what you are reading. YOU BET! Hundreds have gone before you and proved that they can so why not you? We have had just over 700 students of which 697 have proved this with massive improvements in reading speed so why should you be any different.
In our first session we promise to AT LEAST DOUBLE your reading speed. Yes, if you come in with 250 wpm we will have you zipping along at 500 wpm in just one session of one and a half hours. Then over the course of the next 5 days we will take that speed to 1200 or more wpm. Interestingly comprehension goes up too...if at 250 wpm you have 50% comprehension you will find you have 75 - 85% percent comprehension at the higher speed.
